Visual and Media Arts Practice

The mission of the visual and media arts practice program is to educate both not-majors and majors about the importance and vitality that creative creative practice has in contemporary life and has had historically. The visual and media arts do major nurtures students' creative and critical growth through interdisciplinary approaches to traditional and gimmicky media. Foundation courses and art history surveys provide the basis for conceptual and creative engagement with a variety of media and prepare students for developing individually conceived projects at the intermediate and advanced level. Our capstone sequence, which consists of the Interdisciplinary Arts Seminar, Advanced Studio Seminar, and Senior Thesis Exhibition, challenges students to independently conceive, propose and develop a body of work for the Thesis Exhibition while gaining exposure to historical and gimmicky art and fine art theory. In these courses students are also challenged to develop skills and practices that volition serve them in one case they graduate: documentation of piece of work, writing of artists' statements, grants and professional person resumes, networking with other artists and art professionals.

Access requirements

Candidates for admission must have a high school diploma (or recognized equivalent), and must take completed a minimum of sixteen units of secondary school coursework. Minimum requirements include 4 units in English, three in college preparatory mathematics (including Algebra I, Ii, and Geometry), and at least two each in history, laboratory scientific discipline, and a second language (two units of the same language, including American Sign Language).

  • Having been enrolled in an academically rigorous, English-medium secondary school for four years.
  • Obtaining a score of 660 or higher on the Saturday evidence-based reading and writing department.
  • Obtaining a score of 28 or higher on the Deed English section.
  • Obtaining a score of 7.5 or higher on the IELTS.
  • Obtaining a grade of A or B in Avant-garde Placement, International Baccalaureate or A-Level English course(south).
