And then awesome! I did not know that consomme was so I only bought beef broth. Earlier I made the recipe I looked information technology upwardly and realized it is a strong goop so I just added 3 beefiness bullion cubes to the broth before adding the roast beef. It was so great. Everyone in my family unit gobbled it up. My husband preferred cheddar and and mustard and so it was easy to modify information technology up before putting in the oven.
03/24/2011
It does't get much easier than this! Plus, it tastes really good! All I added to the "au jus" was a i tsp. of minced garlic, and a ane/2 tsp. of rosemary. I as well sauteed a large onion sliced into ane/2 inch rings. I used swiss cheese instead of provolone (personal preference). These were some "Easiest" French Dip sanwiches e'er!
05/19/2008
This was awesome! I just au jus (in the bundle) and it came out great. I added some garlic and onion salt to the juice. I also added garlic salt on top of the sandwiches before cooking. This was quick and uncomplicated and we loved information technology, thanks!

I fabricated this for my son and I tonight. He said this is better than Arby's! I did make a few changes. I added onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper to the beef broth like others did. I sauteed green bell pepper, onion and mushroom to add to sandwich under the provolone. Gotta get them veggies in! I am notwithstanding trying to find the bread that will hold up to the juice equally the hoagie turns also mushy, maybe toasting it as others take done volition make the difference. I'll try that next time. I accept found that the sandwich turns out all-time with expert quality meat from the cafeteria. This is a keeper for my family as nosotros can customize to individual tastes, quick to set up and yummy.

This is a Neat sandwich. I am the master cook on our shift at the burn down section and the guys are e'er looking for something dissimilar. These sandwiches along with homemade french onion soup rocks! Thank you for the great recipe!

My hubby and I really actually enjoyed these and they were exactly what nosotros were looking for in a french dip. Every bit per others suggestions, I sauteed onions and mushrooms and put them on too. I will definately be making these again.

These were so good and then easy! I had leftover roast beef and beef broth in the freezer, bootleg rosemary staff of life, and provolone. I added a little rosemary to the goop, and it was perfect. My family unit loved it! Thank you for a dandy idea, writergirl.
05/xiii/2011
Very easy. I've used consomme forever due to it'southward weight & flavour. However, absolutely NOT a fan of deli roast beefiness b/c it does non even resemb le real roast beef in flavour. I accept a 4 lb.boneless beefiness roast from the freezer, place information technology in a 500 degree oven for 30-45 mins. Plow oven down to 250 and roast UNcoveredfor 6 hrs. The finished product is fantastic & the drippings must exist moistened, stirred upwards & added to the consomme. This is the just way to eat roast beefiness in our family.
04/03/2008
This was a very easy and succulent recipe. My married man and very picky teenager loved information technology! I substituted the beef consomme for i can of beef broth and no h2o and got wonderful results!

Couldnt exist whatever easier, inexpensive or yummy! This is extrememly basic. Even the worst cook will succeed with the great tasting recipe. Thanks for the share.
06/23/2011
I served these sandwiches for dinner and they were actually simple to put together and tasted really great. However, I did change the recipe a scrap. I used a tin can of French onion soup, 1/two can of water, and a tin can of beef broth for the liquid, and sauteed some sliced mushrooms and onions to add together as toppers earlier the provolone. I likewise added some horseradish sauce to my sandwich after it was heated. Everyone else just used the dipping sauce. Just we all thought they were amazing. We'll definitely accept these again.
09/08/2008
I'm glad I constitute this recipe. Information technology's simple and delicious. I added garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper to the au jus.
03/23/2011
I have made this recipe for years and it is always a oversupply pleaser! I love that it'due south so quick and easy to make and information technology's really good. I always have just a couple extra minutes and saute some thinly sliced onions and sliced mushrooms. I add together the onions and mushrooms on elevation of the roast beefiness and then layer my cheese. The onions and mushrooms make it extra yummy, simply the recipe is still 5 stars as is!
06/23/2011
Fantabulous recipe. I added garlic butter to the bun before broiling---yum!
12/xix/2010
Very good, very easy. I used jack cheese because I didn't have provolone and it was just as good (I've made this recipe several times using provolone). Kids dear it.
01/24/2011
This was such a dandy recipe! I sauted some onions in a tbsp of butter first and cooked those down, and then added the beef consomme and a cup of water with 1 bouillon cube. Was a total hit in my house and I have a person in my household that enjoys actually good food.!!!! Def a keeper!
06/26/2011
Super easy. Can't observe beef consomme in Germany so I used beef stock&granules, since I read it is only a really strong broth. I used Swiss cheese, and too added common salt and pepper before placing it in the oven. Adjacent time, I'one thousand going to put the staff of life in past itself get-go, and then add the meat&cheese to melt once its toasted, because the cheese completely melted before the bread was able to get toasty enough for u.s.a..
05/13/2011
This is a VERY easy and delicious recipe. I actually made it using French Onion Soup rather than the beefiness consomme and it really gave the roast beefiness flavor. Toasting the hoagie buns is important! Overall Crawly quick meal.
06/20/2011
This recipe is delish! My hubby was and so excited to eat a french dip at dwelling house (instead of a restaurant) and I loved that it was then easy. We used ciabatta rolls. It has been added to the dinner rotation. ( :
06/23/2011
I take been making a very similar version of this for years. A favorite of my husband! The only thing dissimilar is a use a can of beefiness consommé and a can of French Onion and one to ane and a half cans h2o. It makes for a richer 'au jus'. Also use swiss cheese sometimes. GREAT easy recipe!! :-)
05/12/2011
Toasting the hougie does brand a difference. I toast the bread with garlic butter until information technology is crispy. Occasionally; I'll add provolone or Swiss cheese during the toasting. This seals the bread and allows the au jus to slowly mix into the breadstuff. I accept likewise used the au jus as a dipping sauce just, that way the bread soaks upwardly the au jus at the fourth dimension you lot swallow it. Either mode, this is a smashing sandwich and a regular at my abode.
05/13/2011
A fair recipe. The sodium cistron is a " Killer " At 2000+ mgs of salt, this is not good for you. You can make a scratch dip and improve this to a good and healthy meal. Take-out Chinese nutrient is better than this for the quondam trunk.
06/23/2011
If your hoagie buns are mushie, I recommend yous try a baguette. Slice it to preferred length and dip abroad. It holds upward great.
01/09/2011
pretty darn good for someone who grew up ordering this at every restaurant! I recall it could utilize a tad more spice - but I tin can't pinpoint what information technology needs. I fabricated it exactly equally written and it was excellent. I had ii - shhhhhh!
12/09/2010
Easy and delicious! Subbed a can of French Onion Soup for the Beef Consomme.
09/xx/2011
This was a hit at my house. Unremarkably if iii people like information technology we continue the recipe but everyone loved it. My daughter said she could swallow information technology every day and my son could just requite me a thumbs up because he was besides busy eating.
05/23/2011
I am but a poor student, so I used the Oscar Meyer prepackaged roast beefiness, but I think if I'd used some really adept deli stuff, and remembered to put horseradish on my sandwich (yummm!!), this would have been even better. Equally I made information technology, it was quite delicious peculiarly considering how inexpensive and like shooting fish in a barrel this was!
01/16/2011

06/xix/2011
prepared equally written and turned out delicious. Don't alter anything.
01/12/2011
My family loved these then easy to make. I think adjacent fourth dimension though I volition go some Seasoning salt from Lion's Choice and add together that besides.
01/31/2011
Super piece of cake, quick and delicious! Tin't go wrong!
11/xiv/2010
My Family LOVED these sandwiches!
01/12/2011
This is simplicity at its best! I love it! Will be making again and again. Thank you!! :)
03/23/2011
Delicious served with a ranch & veggie pasta salad. If y'all monitor your sodium intake, there are tasty means to reduce the sodium in this recipe. Use a 1:1 ratio of canned beefiness goop to homemade sodium free beefiness stock. I omit the cheese and add onions lightly sauteed in olive oil.
01/17/2008
5 stars for being so easy! A lot of times, these quick/shortcut recipes aren't worth the time they save, only this one is! I forgot to add the water, and it withal turned out great - didn't miss it - but I only made 2 sandwiches instead of four. Besides, we used pepper-jack cheese b/c they didn't have the right kind at the grocery shop. Yum! So quick and like shooting fish in a barrel!
02/xix/2011
This is the easiest thought for a recipe ever, lol. I actually but buy a packet of Au Jus mix, set up information technology every bit directed, plus a little rosemary, and then follow this recipe from in that location. Yummy & simple. Pre-toasting the rolls a bit is highly recommended.
07/01/2012
Very good as written....became a 5 star when we used beef broth, added a dash of worcestershire sauce, garlic pulverization and onion powder, permit simmer 10 minutes...meanwhile nosotros toasted the rolls for 5 minutes and then added cheese to cook...placed roast beef directly onto rolls slathered a niggling horseradish sauce on i side and used the leftover au jus for dipping. Divine Yumminess!
02/04/2011
Very easy and good, however, I think adjacent time I will add some more than flavors to the broth. Maybe a swish of worcestershire and some onion. Will common salt and pepper the beef later putting it on the bread. Will definitely brand again.
08/04/2010
Was GREAT!! I added some caramelized onions to the sandwiches...yum!
12/06/2010
quick, easy and good. I used simply beef broth and swiss cheese
04/01/2014
I always add together red wine to my beefiness consume...about ii 1/ii tbs. it adds an unmatched flavor...plus, I added garlic pulverization, and instead of water I add a tin can of French onion soup. Dearest!
01/17/2011
And then simple, delicious and quick! Great recipe.
03/28/2011
If the meat has fatty it will shrink up and look less yummy. It would exist better with steak or prime number rib slices. My husband liked information technology and then joked virtually it seeming fancy eventhough it is mostly made from left overs. The next day I made the aforementioned affair but every bit common cold sandwhiches and he said he liked it a lot better the other way. This is good with cooked onions (I added cooked mushrooms to his too) and I recollect it was meliorate that way. I will brand this again many times.
12/12/2010
Super piece of cake and tasted excellent! Wouldn't modify a thing!
04/03/2011
This has very good flavor and leftovers made wonderful beefiness and noodles the following night.
06/03/2014
Very tasty and easy.
06/23/2011
The rating is as recipe is written but nosotros prefer it with one-half cherry wine (or dry sherry) - gives it a more than sophisticated twist. Anyway, then like shooting fish in a barrel no matter which way and a great sandwich.
04/06/2012
Dellicious. Try using a can of French Onion soup (without the water) in place of beef consomme.
07/09/2011
I actually institute this recipe quite bland. I had to add together a few ingredients to salve it. I added 1 shallot, sliced into rings; 1/2 small-scale red onion, sliced; 2 garlic cloves, minced; one/2 tsp pot herbs. As well, the provolone cheese was very overwhelming. I would heartily recommend a milder cheese, such equally mozzarella.
01/24/2011
Me and my son liked it, but my husband is picky. He ate it tho.
01/23/2012
I added onions & green peppers sauteed in existent butter with the cheese on top of the meat. Very good & easy to make.
07/01/2014
This is like shooting fish in a barrel and succulent. I used beefiness broth and it turned out bully.
07/04/2011
Loved this. It was then uncomplicated I don't why I never thought of it myself. I used beef broth with a sprinkling of Lipton onion soup mix and powdered garlic every bit the au jus, Sauted onion, green and cerise peppers and mushrooms. I put the bottom half back under the broiler for a few seconds until the cheese melted. I likewise spread a little Miracle Whip on the top half. Delicious. Rave reviews.
05/10/2014
So uncomplicated but so good! Plan to make weekly.
10/03/2012
I followed this recipe exactly every bit written- information technology gets 5 stars for simplicity, an platonic weeknight meal. I would give it 3 stars for gustation- I constitute it banal. Perhaps with changes (maybe some onions?) it would be tastier. And then 4 stars overall. Thank you for sharing!
10/31/2011
This uncomplicated recipe was delicious!! I wasn't sure what beef consomme was but after some searching I institute information technology in the Campbells soup section... beef consomme! I made information technology exactly every bit directed and it was a hitting at our house!
05/17/2012
Crawly and like shooting fish in a barrel! Was great for a quick meal! I followed directions which are perfect by themselves and merely a couple additions for my fam.. I buttered the top part of breadstuff (cuban) before putting in oven. I sauteed/carmalized some onions, then thru a little class ground mustard on the sandwich when it came out and myyyy oh myyyy.. restaurant quality
06/23/2011
I had my doubts that this was as good as the reviews but male child was I wrong. This was easy and tasted great! I did use beef broth but would like to endeavour the French Onion soup as suggested by others. I besides toasted the bread and that proposition really worked. Thank you for a really easy dinner!
03/27/2014
Astonishing and succulent!!! Already a family favorite!
04/23/2011
practiced recipe, i call up information technology would be better using french onion soup rather than consomme'...will requite it a try next time.
08/29/2011
This was smashing, particularly for how simple it is! I only had beef goop and so I boiled it down to get it thicker, I also threw in about half of a large onion and 3 big cloves of garlic (I honey garlic) and let information technology boil down together. Once the onions were nice and tender I added the meat, and when I put the meat in the sandwich I strained out the onions and garlic out and used the broth for dipping. Came out awesome.
06/23/2011
Campbell'south soup has a recipe similar this...they use French Onion soup...one tin can, undiluted. My married man loves it.
08/08/2011
This is Really skillful, for such a just recipe. I did not have the beef consomme, so used a pkg of au jus and thickened it with 3 TBSP cornstarch, considering my son does not like his bread to become soggy from dipping. This made the au jus much more like a gravy, which was still wonderful. I think the secret is in heating the roast beef in the au jus before placing on the buns.
02/12/2011
I never thought of Provolone before and I used Italian Roast Beef and fresh bakery hoagies - delish!
03/28/2011

I followed the first review of LadyBird, and wow. The goop and the cubes actually give the roast beef an amazing taste. I looked like a pro when I fabricated them lol! Try a sharp cheddar and honey mustard, gives a it a cafeteria style gustation.
06/27/2007

04/28/2012
Great sandwich and so easy. I added half an onion to the consomme and heated it on the stove until the onions were soft. This gave it a wonderful flavor, like french onion soup, and I love the soft onions on the sandwich :) Side by side fourth dimension i'm going to utilize Focaccia bread!
05/19/2011
wow! who'd have thought a french dip this delicious could be and then easy? improve than nigh restaurants! since we really like cheese, we added swiss

04/25/2011
4stars for easy preparation. Good sandwiches.
12/01/2011
Not my favorite. I accept another recipe for french dips that uses beef broth, garlic, crushed red pepper and olive oil, which is much meliorate. The "au jus" is the crucial function. Putting beef in a bun is the easy part.
04/17/2011
This was very tasty and I paired them with french onion soup fabricated with my left over beef broth.
03/21/2011
Super fast and easy. Substituted the Au Jus packet from McCormick for the beefiness consumme. My nine year old told me three times to make this recipe again! :-) Served with sweet potato fries.
01/22/2011
These are succulent! I used a packaged au jus mix from the store, and grilled some mushrooms, light-green peppers and onions to proceed pinnacle of french bread- yummy!
06/12/2007
Very easy and very skilful!!
07/03/2007
So easy. My pickey hubby loved them!!! I used our deli's cajun roast beefiness. yum! I volition definately make agian and agian. It took merely a couple minutes! Great for busy working moms!
11/05/2010
These were actually good for being so fast!
05/09/2008
This was such a quick, easy dinner! The quality of the broth makes all the difference...I added sauteed onions and mushrooms to mine which fabricated it more similar a philly, but it was dandy with or without. Served with sweet tater fries.
03/23/2011
Information technology honestly doesn't get much better or easier than this. I've tried French dip recipes that calls for ho-hum cooking a roast and honestly, I feel this is much tastier. Like others, I sauteed onions and mushrooms and livened up the rolls with a bit of butter and garlic pulverisation. Considering I couldn't observe the consomme I used a can of Au Jus which is fabricated only for this type of sandwich then it worked perfectly. Cheers so much writergirl!
